Bike n' Brunch	5/16/03	Great Allegheny Passage	Pittsburgh City Parks Senior Interests is sponsoring this event. Haven't been on a bike in years? Worried about getting lost or dodging cars? Bike with Golden Triangle Bike rentals and don't worry. Enjoy the morning sunshine and fresh air, as you pedal along the PAVED, FLAT, Eliza Furnace Trail that parallels the Monongahela River. The ride is designed to provide the mature rider with some light exercise. Then enjoy a light brunch and the opportunity to interact with others who enjoy nurturing their spirit in a healthy active way! Comfort bikes, coaster bikes and a tricycle are available to rent $5.00 + tax (includes helmet.) McKeesport History & the Environment Day	5/17/03	YRT-N	Join us for a day of trail volunteering and and learning as we embrace McKeesport as a community. Pedal Pittsburgh Ride	5/18/03	TRHT	Come ride with Pedal Pittsburgh! There are 3 rides: the 50- & 60-mile, the 25- & 35-mile, and the 15-mile ride. All rides start and finish at the Amphitheatre at Station Square and include lunch & entertainment at the Amphitheatre at Station Square. Don't ride alone! Castle, Coke, and the Great Allegheny Passage-- Elderhostel	5/27/03 5/28/03	YRT-N	Visit an American castle, Linden Hall (1913). This unique, secluded estate neslted in the scenic Laurel Highlands stands testimony to the area’s rich history and splendor. Enjoy a tour of the estate followed by dinner and local blue grass talent. The next day, you’ll peddle 7 miles along the Yough River Trail to Dawson, where you’ll learn about the region’s coal & coke heritage. 2nd Annual Trail Mixer	6/13/03	TRHT	Friends of the Riverfront is excited to announce the second annual Trail Mixer will be held Friday, June 13, from 6-9pm at the Terminal Properties on the South Side of Pittsburgh. The Friends’ Trail Mixer will annually showcase an exciting new riverfront development. This year we chose to highlight the potential of the South Side Riverfront from 1st-10th Streets by holding it at the Pittsburgh Terminal Properties. At the event we will display professional renderings of the potential that this riverfront area holds. Tickets are $50 or $35 if you arrive by hike, bike, boat or bus. Rockwood River & Rails Festival	6/20/03 6/22/03	AHT-PA	The Rockwood River & Rails Festival is a family festival with something for people of all ages, from a petting zoo to antique cars, a 5-K race and entertainment including musical groups and local talent. 11th Annual Tour de Sewickley	6/29/03		The Tour de Sewickley is a ride, not a race, and has something to offer every level of cyclist. The 60-mile ride starts in Allegheny County and weaves its way through communities in the north into Beaver County. This scenic and rural route makes its way to Brushcreek Park before heading back to Sewickley. The 30-mile route follows the Pennsylvania Red Belt. Rest stops are available at the 15, 30, and 45-mile points. The 5-mile Family Fun Ride meanders through the community of Sewickley. Participants who register before June 13th are guaranteed an official Tour de Sewickley T-shirt. The money raised at the Tour de Sewickley is applied toward the comprehensive programs and services The Early Learning Institute provides for infants and preschool children with developmental delays. The Seagate Pittsburgh Triathlon & Adventure Race	7/13/03	TRHT	The Seagate Pittsburgh Triathlon & Adventure Race to benefit Friends of the Riverfront will host athletes from around the country at the new North Shore Riverfront Park on Sunday, July 13, 2003. Participants and spectators will appreciate the exciting backdrops of our beautiful city, new ballparks, trails and countless historic bridges around the vital three rivers of our area. The triathlon consists of a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run. The adventure race will follow the same course for a 3K canoe or kayak paddle, 20K bike and 5K run. These are the premier races of these distances in our region. Whether you compete individually or as a team, we challenge you to experience our vibrant urban landscape and unparalleled welcome! The Great Ride	7/27/03	TRHT	The Great Ride is the original recreational bicycling tour of Pittsburgh, taking cyclists through three regional parks, across four city bridges, and through twelve city neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive personality. Cyclists of all ages and abilities choose between a predominately flat 20-mile course, a hillier 30-mile course, and a challenging 50-mile course that ascends several steep city streets. More experienced riders can also be challenged by a 5-mile loop of Mount Washington, with a spectacular view of downtown Pittsburgh. Riders are treated every 10-12 miles to festive and nourishing comfort stations offering a variety of refreshments and entertainment. The finish line congratulates riders with music, food, and raffle prizes. Regular Meetings and Volunteer Activities

These trails have come to exist only because of the dedication of many volunteers. These volunteers do everything from identifying possible routes, to negotiating land acquisition, to public relations, to trail clearing, trash removal, ongoing maintenance, sign-making, and landscaping, to newsletter production and office activities. All the trail councils depend on volunteers for trail development, publicity, and other activities. They need your time and energy. Your favorite trail has something for you to do. Please use our information request form to volunteer.
